Venezuela recently passed a law that allows their President, Hugo Chavez, to run for office as many times as he would like. As a result, Chavez says that the nation is stating their support for his Socialist ideas and the redistribution of oil wealth throughout the country, even to people that aren’t involved in the industry. As things grow worse in our own nation, built on Capitalism and hard work, the conversations regarding the merits of Socialism are too much for me. Let’s see if I can remember them all: acid rain, depletion of the rain forests, the oceans dying, asteroids hitting the earth, and global warming. These are all the ways that we were told we were going to die when I was growing up. Each one of these was a catastrophe waiting to happen and that couldn’t be avoided. And yet, I’m still here. Newsweek asks “To Whose God Will Rick Warren Pray?” They cite the inclusive language of President Bush’s 2005 inauguration. The minister closed his prayer, “We ask in your most holy name.” That was considered OK. But in 2001, Franklin Graham closed his inaugural prayer with, “In the name of the Father, and of the son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.” Alan Dershowitz wrote in the L.A. Times that Graham’s prayer “excluded tens of millions of American Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Shintoists, Unitarians, Agnostics, and Atheists from his blessing.”

With the recent tragic death of John Travolta’s son Jett, I began to wonder is it really okay to question God during a tragedy? After all Jett was 16, why would God allow someone that young to die? Why does God allow bad things to happen in life?
