The Economy and the Bible

If I hear the word “bailout” one more time or AIG and bonuses I might just throw the remote through the TV. That of course would be bad because that would mean no more Blue Clues for my sons for a while (but my sanity would be restored from Blues Clues overload). Certainly many are still on edge wondering when and if we will ever get out of this economic slump. We ceratinly do not know what tomorrow holds.

Miraculous Transformations

I have been following a segment on the Today show for a while about people that lost over 100 lbs simply through diet and exercise. Their stories of transformation are both amazing and inspirational, and you feel good for people who identified a problem in their life and worked to be different. A few years ago we were worried about the size 0’s in Hollywood who portrayed a body image that was hardly attainable. Now we seem to have moved more towards health than Hollywood. Is Communism the Real Picture of Christianity?

Venezuela recently passed a law that allows their President, Hugo Chavez, to run for office as many times as he would like. As a result, Chavez says that the nation is stating their support for his Socialist ideas and the redistribution of oil wealth throughout the country, even to people that aren’t involved in the industry. As things grow worse in our own nation, built on Capitalism and hard work, the conversations regarding the merits of Socialism are too much for me. Some believe you can have Socialism (economic control by the government) without Communism (social control by the government), but that is a dangerous line to walk.

Good News in a Bad News World

Let’s see if I can remember them all: acid rain, depletion of the rain forests, the oceans dying, asteroids hitting the earth, and global warming. These are all the ways that we were told we were going to die when I was growing up. Each one of these was a catastrophe waiting to happen and that couldn’t be avoided. And yet, I’m still here. Is it my natural resiliency that has allowed me to survive so long? Or is it that we live in a world that dwells on the negative?
