A Prayer for the Nations

Have you ever felt like your prayer life was just all over the place? Was unfocused, was just bouncing around and you were really praying with no purpose? I have felt that way many times so I decided to try to organize some of my days of prayer. For instance on Monday I prayed for all of those who made decisions at our services on Sunday. I prayed for those who I knew who were struggling with physical issues and spiritual issues. Today I prayed for missions. I focus Tuesdays always on mission work our church is doing, mission trips we are taking in the future and missionaries around the world.

Now other day of the weeks I have focused prayer on other topics. Now of course I allow time to pray for situations and people that need prayer that day, make sure you always allow for freedom of the Spirit to move and guide your time. So since today was prayers for missions and missionaries, I wanted to share a verse that I prayed for today. Psalm 67:3 says, “Let the peoples praise You, O God; let all the peoples praise You. Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy!”

I love this verse because this verse is all about why God has created every person on this planet and it is all about missions. God made each one of us to worship Him. God made us so that we can be glad in Him. One pastor I listen to is John Piper. Piper is right in stating, “God is most satisfied in us, when we are most satisfied in Him.” There is great joy and satisfaction in your life when you are praising God and you are glad in Him.

So this verse relates to the purpose of creation but also to missions. See that is why missions exist because there are people all over the world that are not glad in God, they are not praising God, they are not calling out to His name with joy. Missions is about going to those people, telling them about Jesus Christ and showing them how to be glad in God. Today there are many in every country that are not praising His name, our job as believers is to help them to be glad, to help them fulfill the purpose in which they were created.

So today spend time where you are, praying for missionaries in other countries, praying for many people to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and praying for your involvement in missions.
