Could 2010 be the Year of the Bible?

I ran across an interesting article on foxnews website yesterday. Here is the link to the full article. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/05/22/georgia-republican-wants-obama-make-year-bible/
Georgia Rep. Paul Broun has put forth a resolution that if signed by President Obama would make 2010 the year of the Bible. The reason for this is to recognize that much of our heritage as a country is based on Biblical values.

Here is how some of the resolution will read: “The president is encouraged ... to issue a proclamation calling upon citizens of all faiths to rediscover and apply the priceless, timeless message of the Holy Scripture which has profoundly influenced and shaped the United States and its great Democratic form of government, as well as its rich spiritual heritage, and which has unified, healed and strengthened its people for over 200 years.” (cited from website article). It does not look like the resolution will pass as it only has 12 co-sponsors and is already meeting with a great deal of opposition.
My question to you today is this, what role does the Bible play in your life? Do you agree with the Psalmist when he says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105)? We see that the Bible has a great importance in the life of the believer in Christ, here are just three important functions of the Bible:

1.The Bible provides instruction for right living
2.The Bible provides direction for decisions we need to make
3.The Bible provides us with the knowledge of who God is, who we are and how we can have a relationship with God.

I encourage you today to take time out of your day and read your Bible regularly. You can read in the morning, at lunch or at night. My suggestion is read when you are alert and ready to read carefully. Some people like to read for a short time or a long time. I usually read until something captures my thought and I take a verse or a passage and think about it through the day. If you have never read the Bible on a regular basis here are some good plans or just make up your own plan.

Have a great day and happy Bible reading.
