McMahon, Fawcett and Jackson

You might not think that Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson have anything in common. McMahon was known for being the “sidekick” for the king of late night, Fawcett was one of “Charlie’s Angels” and Jackson was the great “King of Pop.” At first glance these three iconic Hollywood figures do not really share any similarities. However they share quite a few similarities, just as we do with them also.

Now I know most of our readers are not late night host, television stars or recording artists, but we do share may commonalities with these figures.

Let us think of a few:

1. We were all created by God
2. We all sin against God
3. We are all separated from God because of our sin
4. We all need to be forgiven for our sin
5. We will all die
6. We will all stand before God one day and give an account for our lives. No matter who you are, what you have done, no one is excused from appearing before God. The “King of Pop” this week stood before the King of the Universe.

The good news is that God knows all this about us. God knows us intimately because He created us. God knows we are sinners because we have sinned against Him. God knows we need a redeemer so He sent His Son Jesus to be our redeemer. God knows we need to be forgiven of our sin. God knows when we will die and God knows what day we will stand before Him is coming.

It is amazing to think that God has offered us eternal life in Jesus. God has freely demonstrated His love toward us. It is not because we are famous like McMahon, Fawcett or Jackson that God offers forgiveness, instead forgiveness is offered to all. No matter our position in life, our social standing or profession we all share these commonalities. We all need to make a personal decision to follow Jesus as the Lord and Savior of our life. Today if you have never made this decision then turn to Christ, admit your sin and place your total trust in Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

John 3:16, “For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish but have everlasting life.”
