The Economy and the Bible

If I hear the word “bailout” one more time or AIG and bonuses I might just throw the remote through the TV. That of course would be bad because that would mean no more Blue Clues for my sons for a while (but my sanity would be restored from Blues Clues overload). Certainly many are still on edge wondering when and if we will ever get out of this economic slump. We ceratinly do not know what tomorrow holds.

So what does the Bible have to say about the economy and money?

Well check out these verses: Proverbs 23:4-5, Hebrews 13:5-6 and 1 Timothy 6:6-10

The key in this time of economy up and downs is to remember that God is still there, God still has a plan, God is not caught off guard and we can still trust in the God who provides.

Have a great day watching the stock market craziness.

Remembering and trusting ourselves to God’s sovereignty is indeed a key.  Another, especially in relation to investing, is to store up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21).  Randy Alcorn ties this with 1 Timothy 6:7 to create what he calls the Treasure Principle, “You can’t take it with you but you can send it on ahead!”  More pertinent to this discussion is that investing in heaven directs our hearts toward heaven instead of what’s around us, and the treasure we have there will never lose value!  I think most of us need all the help we can get to live for eternity rather than just the here and now.
