What a Decade!

Well, today marks the end of another year and a decade. I thought I would join all the other count downs, reflection blogs, and lists that comes with the passing of another year and offer some reflections on this past decade.

Personally this has been a great decade for me and my family. Here are just some highlights of what happened in my life during the past ten years:
1. Was called to be a pastor
2. Went to seminary and earned a Master’s Degree
3. Married a great woman named Sandra Wood who also went to Seminary and has a Master’s Degree
4. Had two children, both boys
5. Became a pastor of a great church in Stewartstown, PA.

Over this past decade we have seen many other changes in our world:
1. The instant news media grew to the point now that we know everything that happens globally very quickly
2. Al-Queda became a household word
3. Global communication became increasing popular and easy
4. The explosion of Facebook and Twitter brought many old faces back in our lives, some we may have wanted to forget
5. The rise and fall of one of the greatest golfers in the history of the world

Also in this past decade we have seen great changes in the way we minister in churches:
1. Days of extended revival services and meetings are gone
2. Many churches do not focus on special events much anymore
3. The growth of small group ministry has re-defined Sunday School programs and the way churches look at discipleship
4. We have seen and are still seeing a younger generation coming back in churches
5. Many churches started to build services toward those are “seekers”
6. There has been a good push over the past few years for churches to become more missional rather than just mission minded.

Wow, this is just the start of some of my thoughts over what happened the past ten years! I am glad though as I reflect we are told that, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever more.” We of course do not know what the next year will hold or the next decade will hold. Who knows where we will be living, what we will be doing, who are friends will still be? However take time to praise God that Jesus will still be the same, nothing will change with Him. Nothing will happen to Jesus in this next year or next decade that would cause Him to stop being the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
