Who was Lottie Moon?
I did not grow up Southern Baptist, I grew up attending a Methodist church. When I was fourteen years old I made the greatest decision of my life, I decided I was going to follow Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. In my early 20’s I left the Methodist church for a variety of reasons and began to search out what church to go to. I decided on Faith Baptist Church which was a Southern Baptist Church.
I happened to start attending Faith Baptist around the Christmas season and they were doing something called the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. My first question was who is Lottie Moon and my second question was why does she need so much money? Well I soon learned about Lottie Moon and the important work she did in her life. Also I learned of the benefits of giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. Here is just a little about Lottie and what happens to the money that you give.
Lottie was born in 1840 in Albemarle County in VA. She was saved in December 1858. In 1873, she went to China to be a missionary and share Jesus Christ with Chinese girls and women. He work in China was very effective and many people were impacted by her efforts. Lottie is best known for her letters which she wrote back to the U.S. raising awareness for the Chinese population and also a great need for more missionaries. In 1918 the Women’s Missionary Union named their annual Christmas offering for international missions after Lottie Moon.
The great thing about giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering is that 100% of the money given goes to international missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention. Today there is a great need for more people to hear about Jesus Christ. 1.5 billion people in our world have never heard of Jesus Christ. The Lottie Moon offering supports more than 5,600 missionaries who share the gospel around the world.
Your gifts and prayers this Christmas season will make a difference in the life of someone who has never heard of Jesus Christ. So today pray for more to hear about Jesus and pray for more to go and tell others about Jesus.
