Believing in Jesus is the first and most vital step to following Jesus. Becoming part of a local community of believers is the next part of First Steps, and when you join with us at SBC our goal is to help you grow with us into an ever more committed follower of Jesus Christ for the glory of God. We focus on 3 areas that help us grow in our walk with Jesus:

  1. Seek the Lord
  2. Build redemptive relationships
  3. Commit to serve

Seek the Lord

The Great Commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. We do this by seeking the Lord through worship, prayer, and Scripture as a faith community, with our families, and in our private lives.

  • As a Faith Community: Each Sunday morning at 10:15 we gather together to worship our Lord through singing, prayer, and the ministry of the Word of God. This not only connects us to God, it also expresses our connection to one another as one body in Christ.
  • With Our Families: God designed family as the context for nourishing and lovingly raising children, including spiritual nurturing and growth together. This can happen as families pray together, read and study Scripture together, and openly live out faith together.
  • In Our Private Lives: Our relationship with our Lord grows as we spend time listening to Him by reading and studying His words to us in Scripture and talking to Him in prayer.

Build Redemptive Relationships

When we seek the Lord we focus on our relationship with God, but we also need to focus on our relationships with others. This includes relationships with other followers of Jesus Christ, and also relationships with those who do not yet follow Jesus.

  • Redemptive Relationships with Believers: What we’re talking about here is the kind of relationship that allows us to encourage each other to live out our faith. This includes supporting each other in times of difficulty and weakness, correcting and admonishing each other when we sin, and spurring each other on to love and good works. Small groups and personal relationships with other believers offer the perfect contexts for this. See our Ministries section to learn about groups available at SBC.
  • Redemptive Relationships with Unbelievers: We are called to take the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ to those God puts in our lives. Building meaningful relationships with people who do not know Jesus and are in the sphere of our daily lives creates the perfect context for gospel conversations that God may use to bring them into his forever family of Christ followers. This kind of relationship doesn’t happen automatically; it takes loving effort and intentionality.

Commit to Serve

In Luke 22:26 Jesus says, “Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.” Jesus is our example, and you’re never more like Jesus than when you serve. Here are some opportunities to serve regularly at SBC.

Sunday School Teacher or Helper –

Kingdom Kids – Individuals teach lessons, care for babies, serve as a buddy for a child with special needs, and connect with kids as a helper. You can serve one Sunday each month during the worship service, or as a fill-in when needed.

TeamKID – Individuals serve in many roles, including teaching, helping, serving as a buddy for a child with special needs, games, and more. This weekly ministry is perfect for those who want to impact the lives of kids on a weekly basis each Wednesday evening.

Rock Solid Youth – We want our teenagers to build positive relationships with godly adults. Working as one of our youth leaders is a great way to impact the life of students at a critical time in their lives.

Audio/Visual – Behind the scenes of an excellent, distraction-free service is a team of audio/visual volunteers. If you have a passion for excellence and details, an ear for sound, an eye for visual quality, and some minimal technical capacity, this may be for you.

Ushers & Greeters – The role of ushers and greeters is to help people feel welcome at SBC. They greet people as they arrive for the worship service, hand out bulletins, and help guests get acclimated.

Welcome Ministry – Participants in this ministry staff the Connect Center after the worship service to meet guests and give them a welcome gift bag. If you have a friendly way about you and enjoy meeting new people, this may be a great fit for you.

NOTE: Every person who works with children under the age of 18 at SBC must complete a background clearance and provide the clearance documents to the church prior to serving.
