A “disciple” means more than just “student” or “learner.” A disciple is a “follower,” someone who adheres completely to the teachings of another. Discipleship for the Christian begins with surrendering to the lordship of Jesus by faith and repentance of sins and possesses new life through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Because the disciple loves Christ, he/she will also be an obedient disciple (John 14:15). Christian disciples strive to learn and obey the teachings of Jesus. Disciples must learn to replicate themselves (Matthew 28:19–20).
